1. Along the shining road
That leads to life so free
I tread with glad and glowing heart,
For Jesus leadeth me;
Though long ago he passed
Beyond our mortal sight,
The very pathway that he went
Still shines with heavenly light.

2. I know that but for Him
The road would darkened be,
And shapes and shadows dark and dread
Might gather threateningly
But He has trodden first
The long, the changeful way,
And left His light upon it all
To turn the night to day.

3. The shinning road may seem
To lose itself in night;
The valley mist, the winter cloud
I know full well it winds,
Until, or soon or late,
If finds upon the hills of God
His shinning city gate.
