Hymn 493 CHRISTIANS AWAKE Lyrics<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
1. Christians, awake, salute the happy mom,
\n\tWhereon the Saviour of the world
\n\tWas born rise to adore the mystery of love
\n\tWhich hosts of angels chanted from above
\n\tWith hem the joyful tidings first begun of
\n\tGod incarnate and the Virgin’s son<\/p>\n
\t2. Then to the watchful shepherds it was told,
\n\tWho heard the angelic herald’s voice:
\n\tBehold I bring good tidings of a Saviour’s birth,
\n\tTo you and all the nations upon earth;
\n\tThis day hath God fulfilled His promised word,
\n\tThis day is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord.<\/p>\n
\t3. He spake and straightway the celestial choir,
\n\tIn hymns of joy, unknown before conspire:
\n\tThe praises of redeeming love they sang.,
\n\tAnd heaven’ whole orb with halleluiahs rang;
\n\tGod’s highest glory was their anthem still,
\n\tPeace upon earth, and unto men goodwill.<\/p>\n
\t4. To Bethlehem straight the enlightened shepherd ran,
\n\tTo see the wonder God had wrought for man,
\n\tThen to their flocks, still praising God, return,
\n\tAnd their glad hearts with holy rapture burn,
\n\tAmazed, the wondrous tidings they proclaim,
\n\tThe first apostles of His infant fame.<\/p>\n
\t5. O may we keep and ponder in our mind,
\n\tGod’s wondrous love in saving lost mankind;
\n\tTrace we the Babe, who hath retrieved our loss,
\n\tFrom His poor manger to the bitter cross
\n\tTread in His steps assisted by His grace,
\n\tTill man’s first heavenly state again take place.<\/p>\n
\t6. Then may we hope, the angelic hosts among.
\n\tTo sing, redeemed, a glad triumphal song.
\n\tHe that was born upon this joyful day,
\n\tAround us all His glory shall display
\n\tSaved by His love, incessant we shall sing
