1. It came upon the midnight clear,
\n\tthat glorious song of old,
\n\tFrom angels bending near the earth
\n\tTo touch their harps of gold:
\n\t“Peace on the carth, goodwill to men,
\n\tfrom heaven’s gracious King:
\n\tThe world in solemn stillness lay
\n\tTo hear the angels sing.<\/p>\n
\t2. Still thro’ the cloven skies they come,
\n\tWith peaceful wings unfurled,
\n\tAnd still their heavenly music
\n\tfloats o’er all the weary world;
\n\tAbove its sad and lowly plains
\n\tthey bend on hovering wing.
\n\tAnd ever o’er its Babel sounds
\n\tthe blessed angels sing.<\/p>\n
\t3. And ye, beneath life’s crushing load,
\n\twhose forms are bending low,
\n\tWho toil along the climbing
\n\tway with painful steps and slow,
\n\tLook now! For glad and golden hours
\n\tcome swiftly on the wing:
\n\tO rest beside the wear road,
\n\tand hear the angels sing.<\/p>\n
\t4. For lo, the days are hastening on,
\n\tBy prophet bards foretold,
\n\tWhen with the ever circling years
\n\tcomes round the age of gold,
\n\tWhen peace shall over all
\n\tthe earth its ancient splendors fling.
