1. Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee;
\n\tDestitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence, my all shalt be;
\n\tPerish every fond ambition, All I’ve songht, and hoped and known;
\n\tYet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own!<\/p>\n
\t2. Let the world despise and leave me,
\n\tThey have left my Saviour, too,
\n\tHuman hearts and looks deceived me,
\n\tThou art not, like man, untrue;
\n\tAnd, while Thou shalt smile upon me,
\n\tGod of wisdom, love and might,
\n\tFoes may hate, and friends may shun me,
\n\tshow Thy face, and all is bright.<\/p>\n
\t3. Man may trouble and distress me,
\n\t“Twill but drive me to Thy breast;
\n\tLife with trials hard may press me,
\n\tHeaven will bring me sweeter rest.
\n\tO’tis not in grief to harm me,
\n\tWhile Thy love is left to me,
\n\tO ’twere not in joy to charm me,
\n\tWere that joy unmixed with Thee.<\/p>\n
\t4. Haste thee on from grace to glory,
\n\tArmed by faith, and winged by prayer,
\n\tHeaven’s eternal day’s before thee.
\n\tGod’s own hand shall guide thee there,
\n\tSoon shall close thy earthly mission,
\n\tSwift shall pass thy pilgrim days,
\n\tHope shall change to glad fruition,
